Protect Our Communities: Stand Up for Responsible Growth Across Washington

Our communities are being told that endless growth is inevitable—an unstoppable force

that will somehow improve our lives. But we know the truth: endless, unchecked development is irresponsible and reckless. It threatens our neighborhoods, our safety, and our quality of life. It’s time to take back control of our homes, are neighborhoods and our future.

Together, we can prevent traffic chaos, protect our neighborhoods, and demand smart, responsible growth across Washington.

The Fight Against Overdevelopment

The 35th Ave Community Action Group is leading a crucial battle against overdevelopment within Snohomish County. Overdevelopment in Snohomish County increases traffic congestion, extends commute times, and strains infrastructure on I-5, affecting everyone who drives on the interstate.

Growth without proper infrastructure is overwhelming our roads, endangering residents, and setting a dangerous precedent for the entire state.

When one community takes a stand, we pave the way for others to demand responsible growth that prioritizes safety, sustainability, and the well-being of residents.

The Problem: Overdevelopment Endangers Everyone

Unchecked growth without adequate planning creates immediate and long-term safety risks:

ï‚· Emergency Access Blocked:

  • Our community has only one route for emergency services and resident entry/exit. Repeatedly, blocked roads have delayed EMS responses by over an hour—and during severe weather, access has been delayed for up to 24 hours. This is unacceptable and life-threatening.

ï‚· Traffic Gridlock on 88th Street:

  • Current traffic levels exceed the capacity of 88th Street, leading to daily gridlock. The train crossing at State Street completely shuts down 88th multiple times a day, creating cascading congestion that even impacts I-5 on- and off-ramps. This isn’t just inconvenient; it’s dangerous for residents trying to get in or out.

ï‚· Proposed Developments Will Make It Worse:

  • New developments will add hundreds more vehicles to our already overburdened roads, creating even greater risks in emergencies and making every day commutes unbearable.

These aren’t isolated issues—they’re systemic problems that could soon affect every community in Washington if left unaddressed.

Why Your Support Matters

To protect our neighborhoods and ensure a safer future, we need your help. Every donation strengthens our fight and supports our mission to:

ï‚· Build a Stronger Coalition:

  • Connect communities across Washington to share resources, strategies, and support for responsible growth that benefits everyone.

ï‚· Hold Officials Accountable:

  • Despite raising these safety concerns repeatedly, our voices have been ignored. Your contributions will fund legal action, independent investigations, and advocacy efforts to ensure that our concerns are addressed.

ï‚· Expose False Solutions:

  • City officials have tried to dismiss our concerns with misleading claims. For example, they suggest that by putting in 16 more homes, a new commercial complex and another fast-food chain that that will help reduce traffic on the one road into and out of our neighborhood—a dangerous and absurd justification that ignores the core issues. We need resources to challenge this misinformation.

ï‚· Advocate for Smart Development:

  • Push for policies that require infrastructure improvements before approving new developments, ensuring that growth benefits rather than burdens our communities.

ï‚· Set a Statewide Example:

  • Show every city and county in Washington that residents won’t accept irresponsible/reckless development. Together, we can demand accountability and responsible planning from our local governments.

This Fight is Bigger Than One Community

If we don’t act now, overdevelopment will continue to erode safety and quality of life across Washington. By supporting this fight, you’re not just helping one neighborhood—you’re sending a powerful message that Washington residents demand better. Your contribution also helps us share what we’ve learned, empowering others to take action in their communities.
